The Evolution of Office Design



Morgan Lovell had several distinct objectives for this project.

These included:

  • Demonstrate Morgan Lovell as the clear thought leader in the office design space. Exhibiting their historical knowledge, modern trends, and even making predictions for the future of the workplace.
  • Create a piece that would be visually beautiful, provide a seamless user experience and copy that would entertain experienced specialists in the sector as well as “the man on the street.”
  • Attain PR coverage in publications that would otherwise not have talked about Morgan Lovell.
  • Generate positive social media buzz as users voluntarily share the content piece across Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Acquire links pointing to the piece that would lead to improved Google rankings for essential keywords and phrases.
  • Create a piece that was immersive, thus leading to visitors spending more time on the Morgan Lovell website.
  • Provide the business development team with an asset they can use to interest prospects and demonstrate Morgan Lovell’s passion for what they do.

Results

  • It has moved Morgan Lovell to number #1 ranking for office design.
  • “Office design in London” and “London office design” have also seen an increase in rankings. These are hugely important targets.
  • Time on site is increasing month on month.
  • Average time on site of ~5 minutes which is great.
  • Generated thousands of new unique visitors to the site.
  • The piece also ranks highly for “Office Design History” and “Evolution of Office Design”.

The objective of the project was to create an engaging piece of content that our users would find relevant and that would position us as thought leaders and also enhance our SEO efforts in a competitive market. The piece that Render created met all of these objectives and the reaction has been phenomenal with increased traffic to the site, improved rankings and excellent coverage.

Here's how we did it!

Research

We ensured we made the best use possible of Morgan Lovell’s experts while also doing our own research – including our resident historian, Asher Baker, taking many trips to the British Library. The piece demanded accuracy and detail. Anything less would be unacceptable to Morgan Lovell, Render Positive, and most importantly those who would ultimately consume the content when it was completed. Beautiful illustrations and wonderful UX mean nothing if the information doesn’t intrigue. We cannot overstate the seriousness of this phase of the project.

Production

We made sure the copy was a pleasure to read and the illustrations were spectacular. The Storyform platform was the obvious choice to take users on an interesting and engaging journey.

Promotion

An incredible piece makes for an easy sell. It was picked up by Digg, Design Taxi, referenced on Medium, and went viral on Twitter and LinkedIn. This directly led to improved search rankings, increased referral traffic, and visitors staying on the Morgan Lovell site for longer. It is the de-facto resource on this topic, and will continue to be referenced for years to come.
