Interactive Guide to the Arctic

Quark Expeditions

The brief

Quark Expeditions wanted to position themselves as the authority for all things Arctic expedition. These were their aims:

  1. Positive PR
  2. Links
  3. Social media visibility
  4. Competition entries with opt-in email addresses for their mailing list

What we did

We created an interactive guide to the Arctic that allowed users to intuitively explore and learn all about the area. There was a competition element, with one lucky winner receiving a free expedition.

  • Coverage in top travel blogs and competition sites including the authority site,
  • Mass social media sharing, especially across Twitter and Facebook
  • 30,000 competition entries with a 30% opt-in email rate – thats 9,000 new, targeted opt-in email addresses on their mailing list!
  • The guide has become a popular part of the Quark Expeditions site – making it a functional tool as well as a marketing device
  • It now ranks 1st in Google for the term “Guide to the Arctic

We worked with Render Positive to develop a new campaign to assert our leadership position as the experts in all things Polar expedition, increase brand exposure, PR, links and social mentions whilst capturing opt-in email addresses. They brainstormed several ideas and we chose the idea of an interactive guide to the Arctic. We added in a contest element where one lucky winner would get a free Arctic expedition.

The final infographic  is chock-full of information, intuitive and most importantly, socially shareable. They promoted the guide using paid social media seeding through Facebook, Twitter and display advertising. The end result? We are thus far exceeding our targets for data collection whilst substantially increasing our social media following and acquiring really positive digital PR. We will absolutely be working with Render Positive on future projects!

Here's how we did it!



We brainstormed a wealth of ideas based on the premise that Quark Expeditions needed to be the authority on all things Arctic whilst acquiring thousands of opt-in email addresses.


Creation and Amendments

This was a huge project. We had to work very closely with Quark Expeditions to make sure we produced the most intuitive, interesting and factually correct piece as possible. We worked with Quark Expeditions to make sure the finished product was something they could be proud of.



We contacted a plethora of travel blogs and competition sites about our interactive guide and the prize that was available.

In addition, we ran targeted, cost effective paid social seeding campaigns across Facebook and Twitter.
