Event of the Week: Twitter Scandinavian Summit

By Tess | 11th Nov 2015 | Posted in Events

Twitter Scandinavian Summit

On Monday 9 November, Twitter held their first ever Scandinavian Summit in Stockholm, Sweden. The beautiful, grand venue in Östermalm played host to several Twitter employees, three of whom gave presentations; the highlights of which follow here.

As the event was in Sweden, there was of course fika (tea/coffee and cakes) galore!

Twitter fika!

Timur Sultanov – Head of New Markets at Twitter

Up first was Timur, who spoke about the rise of mobile, and shared some incredible stats with us:

  • 90% of Twitter video views now happen on mobile.
  • 56% of people on Twitter are influenced by content on the platform when buying products.

Timur also shared with us some highlights from Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends report which showed that the time spent on mobile isn’t (yet) proportional to ad spend, and currently presents the greatest opportunity.

Martha O’Byrne – O’Reilly – Senior Direct Response Specialist EMEA

Martha spoke next on the topic of direct response, and gave lots of information and actionable tips to start using on Twitter Ads straight away. When setting up a Twitter Ads campaign, Martha suggests:

  • when targeting a campaign, use competitors’ @usernames.
  • when defining a target’s interests, as well as general interests also target competitive usernames, popular media usernames, and influencer usernames.
  • when keyword targeting, use niche hashtags, seasonal keywords, competitor and brand keywords.

There was a break giving us a chance to re-fill the fika supplies, and even dip into the sweets (only in Twitter colours, natch).

Twitter sweets!

Ross Sheil – Head of EMEA Mobile Apps at Twitter

To finish, Ross spoke about mobile app promotion. As things stand, there are a whopping 3 million apps available, so making sure yours stands out can be a challenge. Twitter Ads provides solutions to this both on Twitter and off-Twitter through thousands of mobile apps that use MoPub’s mobile advertising exchange.

Ross went on to explain that ads on Twitter are a great way to attract app installs, as Twitter users have strong purchasing power;

  • 58% of Twitter users have installed an app in the past month.
  • 36% of Twitter users have an app on their phone they have paid for.
  • 27% of Twitter users have made a purchase in app.

It sounds as though this was the first of many such events, so stay tuned and follow Twitter Ads Nordics for news, tips, and future events.
