We’ve created a series of bite-sized blog posts just long enough to give you the downlow on all kinds of digital wizardry, because we love sharing our knowledge and know-how. Get tips for improving your social media efforts, discover powerful PR tricks, and learn all kinds of hacks to make your work life easier. Here is our super quick tip of the week.

The way in which we share posts on social media has become increasingly visual. Twitter now lets users send text and up to four images in a tweet. Better still? Whether you tweet one, two, three, or (up to) four images, the same number of characters are used.

Using one or more images on Twitter has a number of benefits.

  • It’s an easy way to tell a longer story without using up precious characters.
  • Adding images to a tweet increases the footprint of the message, so you can take up more space on a user’s timeline, increasing the chance of your tweet standing out.
  • Tweets with images are proven to perform better and increase engagement. One study found that tweets with images receive 18% more clicks, 89% more favourites and 150% more retweets.

  • Start in the usual ‘compose tweet’ box
  • Type the message as usual
  • Click the ‘media’ button
  • Images are added individually
  • Select the first image you want to add to the tweet
  • A thumbnail image will now appear below the text of your tweet
  • To add more images, simply click the ‘media’ button again, and repeat the process as needed for up to four images

As a bonus, when tweeting from the Twitter iOS or Android app you can enhance, apply a filter, and crop an image once it’s been selected.
