What?

You know how on Facebook Messenger it’s hella annoying when you want to ignore someone but it’s too late and they know you’ve seen their message? Here are a couple of solutions…

Why?

The ‘seen’ function, as well as being very annoying and invasive, is a feature most people would like to turn off.

If you don’t want to have your friends knowing when or if you’ve read their messages, Facebook Unseen for Google Chrome is the perfect extension to block those pesky read receipts. Don’t worry, if you don’t use Chrome as your browser, there is another way too.

How?

  • Facebook Unseen only works on Google Chrome and can help you ‘unsee’ messages by blocking Facebook’s read receipts from being sent. Download here.
  • Once this small add-on is installed, there’s nothing much you need to do. As it only has to block a single line of code to disable read receipts, it takes up little room.
  • Facebook Unseen has the ability to manually mark a message as read, giving you absolute control over who sees when you’ve read a message. This feature will help to make it look less suspicious to your friends if you reply without the read receipt showing up first.

Alternatively, if you are not using Chrome and cannot download the app do this:

  • Click on the messages panel
  • Click on the conversation for which you want to hide the ‘seen…’
  • Click on the settings cog next to “New Message’ on the top right of the screen, drop-down and click ‘Mark as Unread’
